Attention All Kids of Mud Clubs,
Many of you were able to attend our Kids of Mud meeting via conference on Monday, March 23.
I would like to thank everyone for their engagement and sharing on the call as well via email. It is a difficult time for everyone and we appreciate the contribution you are making as volunteers in support of cycling and the Kids of Mud program in Manitoba.
Although we encourage individuals to get fresh air, stay physically active, and take care of their physical/mental health, the Manitoba Cycling Association cannot endorse any group activities at this time. This includes, but is not limited to Kids of Mud group rides.
We appreciate that the Kids of Mud program season is fast approaching and that clubs would like some direction on how to proceed. Based on the direction we are receiving from Health authorities the practise of physical distancing to protect the health and safety of everyone is critical at this time.
Our hope and goal is to get back to ‘normal’ as soon as possible, however, it is necessary at this point to postpone all group activities which includes race events, group training, club rides, workshops, clinics, face to face meetings etc. For some clubs this may mean rescheduling Kids of Mud programming (if possible) to a future time (perhaps summer or fall). For others this may mean postponing until next spring. We understand future programming is also contingent on each club finding enough certified coaches, volunteers, and athletes to support programming. If you would like to further discuss what this might look like for your individual club, Cara and I are here to support you.
2020 Manitoba Summer Games scheduled for Dauphin this summer is under review. We will share updates as received including our plan for selection races should this proceed.
The MCA is currently reviewing all events scheduled for April in collaboration with race organizers. Our goal will be to postpone events if and where possible. Please visit the MCA website for updates here: http://www.mbcycling.ca
In closing, I want to thank all our volunteers that are juggling home schooling their kids and doing their best to navigate the changes we are all facing as organizations and individuals. It was evident on Monday’s call that many of you work on the front lines and for that we are all grateful. Please stay safe and healthy.
If you have any questions, concerns, or ideas please funnel these through Cara Gillis – Volunteer MCA Kids of Mud Coordinator: kom.mbcycling@gmail.com
Kind Regards,
Twila Cruickshank
